Camac Harp Festival Pasadena 2016

Jessica Brizuela Ensemble to perform at the Camac Harp Festival 2016 at the Pasadena Sheraton that will take place November 11-13, 2016.
The group features harpist, Jessica Brizuela, vocalist, Francisco Ruiz, percussionist, Lorena Perez Batista, and accordionist, Melinda West.
They will be performing a selection of Latin and jazz favorites Saturday, November 12th at 5:30 PM.

Camac Festival Pasadena 2016 Program


The JESSICA BRIZUELA ENSEMBLE is a group of talented musicians, each accomplished in their own right, who have come together for the Camac Harp Festival. They are: versatile Pasadena harpist, Jessica Brizuela, Venezuelan percussionist, Lorena Perez Batista, Ecuadorian vocalist Francisco Ruiz, and Los Angeles based accordionist, Melinda West. Jessica, Lorena, and Francisco became friends while attending Berklee College of Music. Upon graduating, each moved out to Los Angeles to continue their musical careers. They have remained friends and have continued to play with each other for the love of music. UCLA graduate Melinda joined the group after she performed with Jessica at a wedding, to add more spice to the tango music! The group specialized in Latin music including folk, jazz, tango, and more.

Jessica Brizuela – Harpist
Jessica Brizuela, MT-BC is a harpist, Board Certified Music Therapist, and Certified Neurologic Music Therapist from southern California. Graduating from Berklee College of Music in the class of Felice Pomeranz, Jessica has joined a new harp generation trained not only in classical but also jazz, Latin, and other contemporary styles. Jessica has performed in a variety of places such as Boston Symphony Hall and in France at the Camac Festival. Jessica is currently continuing her education in harp performance at Azusa Pacific University with her longtime harp instructor, Bonnie Mohr. Jessica us actively involved in the harp community working at Pacific Harps, is a member of the Los Angeles Harp Ensemble, and serves as a board member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Harp Society. Most recently, Jessica formed this Latin Ensemble with some of her favorite musician friends, exploring ways of using Camac’s Llanera harp and Little Big Blue harp.www.jessicabrizuela.com

Francisco Ruiz – Vocalist
Hailing from Ecuador, Francisco Ruiz is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and arranger for a variety of projects in LA including Grammy Award winner Paulina Aguirre, Latin fusion group La Cienega Collective and more. Graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Francisco has been a vocal educator for over 7 years, touring with vocal projects and sharing his knowledge in vocal improvisation acquired by studying with 10 time Grammy winner Bobby Mcferrin and former members of his Voicestra: Joey Blake and Rhiannon. Most recently, Francisco performed in Chile at the 2016 Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar alongside Paulina Aguirre representing the Latinos of the United States, winning best interpretation. http://www.franciscovocals.com

Lorena Perez Batista – Percussionist
Lorena Perez Batista is a drummer, percussionist and composer based in Los Angeles. She was born and raised in Punto Fijo, Venezuela and studied at Berklee College of Music, Miami Dade College and music academies in her hometown. She has performed at venues like the Boston Symphony Hall and Hatch Shell, in collaboration with the world music group Rhythm of the Universe, and at the Nokia Club in Los Angeles with the her former band Modabeat aka El Frente. Modabeat was the winner of the national battle of the bands and television show “Vive Tu Música with 5,” with judges like Latin Grammy award winners A.B. Quintanilla, Belanova and Cristian Castro. The band also performed as a supportive artist for the Latin Grammy Award winners Camila and also toured on the East Coast. http://www.lorenaperezmusic.com

Melinda West – Accordionist 
Melinda West is a Los Angeles accordionist, pianist, band leader, and street performer. She has performed with We the Folk and Lucent Dossier often as a part of the speakeasy scene in Los Angeles. While at UCLA she composed for musicals and short films, in addition to working with the Center for the Art of Performance to perform interactive music sets for theatrical exhibitions and concerts.
